Japansk Filmfestival

The Japanese Film Festival in Leksand is a cultural event dedicated to Japanese cinema and related arts, presented by the Japanese Festival Association. It brings audiences together to discover films from Japan, ranging from anime and family-friendly stories to drama, comedy, action and science fiction. The 2024 programme included works by Japanese filmmakers as well as the classic Godzilla, alongside films exploring everyday life, family relationships and fantasy.

Beyond cinema, the festival features music, activities and Japanese festival food, offering visitors a broader experience of Japanese culture. Its programme also connects with Leksand’s friendship-town relationship with Tobetsu, a city in Hokkaido. The festival is set to return on 26–27 February 2027, with new films, music, activities and food. That edition will form part of celebrations marking 40 years of friendship between Leksand and Tobetsu. Through film screenings and cultural events, the festival provides an opportunity for local audiences to experience Japanese stories and traditions in a welcoming community setting.
