Les Jardins de Chanabier is a botanical garden project in Ardèche, France, run by the Myrte et Papyrus association. Dedicated to plants mentioned in the Bible, it brings together botanical discovery, local heritage and environmental education in a welcoming, collaborative setting. Its planned gardens feature around 110 plants described in Jean Paquereau’s book Au jardin des plantes de la Bible, alongside other species significant to Mediterranean and Ardèche traditions, including grapevine, fig, olive, pomegranate, mulberry and willow.
Themed garden spaces and a pathway incorporating agricultural and winemaking tools are designed to share the cultural uses and symbolism of these plants. The project also encourages visitors to explore biodiversity, ecological relationships and care for nature, with opportunities for relaxation and reflection. Through its permaculture training, the association teaches biological and agroecological growing techniques, garden design, biodiversity support and environmentally respectful practices.
Training is led by Nathanaël Bechdolff, an agricultural technician, landscape professional and permaculture educator, with other contributors invited as appropriate. The site also presents a solidarity and shared garden initiative
