About JBBY
JBBY, or the Japanese Board on Books for Young People, was established in 1974 as a branch of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People). This organization is dedicated to promoting international understanding through children's literature. By connecting Japanese and international children through a rich variety of activities, JBBY aims to encourage peace and mutual understanding among diverse groups.
JBBY offers a comprehensive suite of services, including recommending books for international awards, curating exhibitions like the "World Children's Books" and "Barrier-Free Children's Literature," and organizing educational workshops. Their key projects include the JBBY Hope Project, which supports children facing difficulties across Japan. They also publish various materials, such as newsletters and lists highlighting exceptional children's literature both from Japan and globally.
With a commitment to fostering a peaceful future for all children, JBBY leverages partnerships and volunteer efforts to ensure that quality literature is accessible to children everywhere.
