Jen's Place

Jen’s Place provides residential group care for young people in the care and custody of a Children’s Aid Society. Its programs offer a nurturing, therapeutic environment for youth, generally ages 11 to 18, with the home’s overview also describing services for ages 11 to 17. The organization considers applications for female and male youth who may be experiencing emotional or physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, mental health or behavioural challenges, as well as difficulties related to sexuality, abandonment, grief and loss.

Care is tailored to each young person’s physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs. Services include support with day-to-day living skills, individual and group support, counseling, and educational and family support. Staff can also act as liaisons between residents and the wider systems around them, including schools and Children’s Aid Societies. Jen’s Place emphasizes interventions that foster positive development, rather than focusing only on managing behaviour. It also encourages participation in community activities, helping residents build self-esteem, self-efficacy and a sense of belonging.
