The Jewish Genealogical Society of New York (JGSNY) is a renowned brand dedicated to preserving and exploring Jewish family histories. As part of their efforts, they initiated the Burial Society Project in 1989. This ambitious project aims to identify the names and locations of Jewish burial society plots in the New York metropolitan area.

The database now boasts an impressive collection of nearly 10,200 entries from nearly 100 cemeteries throughout New York City, Long Island, Putnam County, Westchester County, and northern New Jersey. Through the JGSNY website, users can access the extensive database and search for specific towns or keywords. The website also offers a Cemetery Directory, providing precise location and contact information for cemeteries in the New York area.

In the Burial Society FAQ section, users can find answers to important questions about cemeteries, burial societies, and landsmanshaftn. The success of this project is owed to the dedication of numerous volunteers and the stellar leadership of Ada Green, Chairperson of the JGS' Cemetery Committee, as well as the tireless efforts of various individuals. The society also welcomes assistance from users who can provide accurate information, ensuring the highest level of accuracy in their database.

By harnessing the power of technology, JGSNY continues to make significant contributions to the preservation of Jewish genealogy
