The Jim Dewan Memorial Scholarship is a program dedicated to supporting young people and celebrating Irish heritage. Its mission is to help nurture the next generation as they carry on cultural traditions and share the rich heritage of the Irish community with a wider audience. The program recognizes scholarship recipients through awards presentations and connects its work with local Irish cultural events.
The scholarship’s winners have been honored at gatherings including the United Irish Societies Jim Dewan Memorial Scholarship Awards Presentation Luncheon at the Gaelic League of Detroit and the Motor City Irish Festival. The program’s 2022 recipients were Maeve Spicer, Bridget Dolowy, and Joshua Hoenscheid; its first award was presented to Rose-Carmel in 2021.
Visitors can learn how to apply for the scholarship, find sponsorship information, advertise in the program, and support its work through donations. With these opportunities, the Jim Dewan Memorial Scholarship brings together students, supporters, and community members to encourage cultural continuity and education about Irish heritage.
