JLC Victoria

JLC Victoria is a Japanese immersion childcare and education provider based at Craigflower Schoolhouse in Victoria, British Columbia. It describes itself as Vancouver Island’s first and only BC-licensed Japanese immersion childcare program, offering services for children from infancy through age twelve. Inspired by a passion for Japanese bilingual education, the organization brings together experienced childcare professionals and the local community.

Its guiding approach, “Learn through Play,” uses enjoyable activities to support children’s learning. Parent-and-tot classes for ages zero to three introduce Japanese through songs, stories, and activities, with English support when needed. The licensed preschool serves ages three to five in small, nurturing classes that combine Japanese language and culture with childcare and monthly themes.

For school-age children from kindergarten through grade twelve, the NIHONGO Club and spring and summer camps provide Japanese-only opportunities for games, stories, and themed exploration. JLC also hosts a free monthly Japanese playgroup and bilingual play sessions
