Dedicated to Protecting Our National Forests We get the truth out about the importance of protecting forest ecosystems, the ecological benefits of natural processes, such as fire, for native biodiversity, and we expose why logging our forests does not create fire-safe communities. So, we fight every day to end the devastating logging practices that degrade…

About John Muir Project
Based in Big Bear City, CA, the John Muir Project (JMP) is dedicated to the ecological management of federal public forestlands. Their goal is to ensure that these lands are managed to provide optimal ecological conditions to support and restore native biodiversity, which has been severely degraded by commercial logging and fire suppression. By utilizing scientific research, public education, and forest legal defense work, JMP aims to end the federal timber sales program and shift the focus of public forest lands towards ecology, recreational enjoyment, and scientific study. With three guiding principles, they advocate for protecting all National Forests, spend hundreds of hours in the forest seeking the truth about natural processes and wildlife, and strive to educate and involve the public in their mission.
JMP is a project of Earth Island Institute, created by David Brower in 1982, and has been working towards forest ecology and conservation since 1997. Led by Chad Hanson, Ph.D. as Director and Principal Ecologist, and Rachel M. Fazio as Associate Director and Staff Attorney, JMP is committed to protecting forest habitat and biodiversity from destruction.
