Founded by James Johnson, the shelter began in a small barn with six cats and now relies on community support to continue providing abandoned cats with food, protection, and a safe home. Maggie Johnson created the shelter’s website to help keep the refuge operating during a difficult period.

The brand offers a handcrafted natural-wood cat toy inspired by the small mice found around the shelter. Designed to be light for cats to bat around and gentle on their paws, the toy gives customers a practical way to support the refuge: proceeds from every order help care for its rescued cats. The store also accepts donations for people who would like to contribute without purchasing a toy, and offers a mailing list for shelter updates. Johnson Animal Shelter’s mission is to preserve the cats’ home and give rescued animals a second chance. The family is working toward a $10,000 fundraising goal before 2027.
