Jonathan Fischer

Jonathan Fischer is a scientific software and biophysics professional whose work connects biology, mathematics, and code. A Johns Hopkins-trained biophysicist who recently completed a PhD, he develops computational models, simulation workflows, and software for complex biological systems. His research explores how geometry, transport constraints, and reaction-network structure influence oscillations in biochemical systems, particularly membrane-localized processes.

Fischer works primarily with Julia and Python, building practical tools for simulation, optimization, visualization, and reproducible analysis. His selected work includes OscillatorOptimization.jl, a software workflow for identifying and studying oscillatory behavior in biochemical models, and a first-author preprint on a membrane-driven biochemical oscillator whose dynamics can be tuned by volume-to-surface-area ratio. He also creates publication-quality figures and animations to make complex dynamical behavior clearer to interdisciplinary audiences.

Alongside research and software development, Fischer contributes through teaching, student mentoring, technical communication, and industry-facing programming with the Hopkins Biotech Network. His talks and presentations include events hosted by ASCB, APS, and the Gordon Research Conference on Stochastic Physics in Biology.
