Jonathan's Junction

Jonathan’s Junction is a transportation-focused project created by Jonathan, a civil engineering student at the University of Waterloo. Its flagship initiative, Ontario Oddities, documents overlooked and forgotten features of Ontario’s provincial highway system, including abandoned roads, old signs, historical details, and other distinctive roadside curiosities. The project makes this information accessible through an interactive map, where visitors can explore mapped oddities and suggest new entries. Ontario Oddities has recorded 256 locations and reached more than 250,000 visitors across different platforms. Its work has also been featured by CBC and the University of Waterloo’s Civil and Environmental Engineering department.

Jonathan’s Junction also publishes transportation writing through Substack, covering topics such as road design, pedestrian infrastructure, intersections, and the history and quirks of transportation systems.
