Josefina Oliver is a cultural and historical project dedicated to the life and creative work of the Buenos Aires photographer, diarist, and artist Josefina Oliver (1875–1956). The site presents her biography through a series of chapters, tracing her life from her childhood in Caballito through her family years and artistic practice. Oliver began taking photographs of friends in 1897 and made her first self-portraits two years later.
Her work includes portraits, domestic interiors, family landscapes, collages, and postcards, often arranged with sets she created herself. She developed her photographs and hand-colored selected prints in vivid tones, assembling them into twelve albums. The project shares the remarkable archive that remained hidden until 2006, including twenty volumes of diaries and more than 2,700 photographs.
Visitors can explore research, an exhibition titled “Colores del silencio,” videos, and the book “Yo Josefina Oliver,” alongside photographs and biographical material. Through these resources, the project brings Oliver’s distinctive artistic legacy to contemporary audiences and highlights the historical circumstances that kept her work largely unseen during her lifetime
