Journey League is a nonprofit organization that uses basketball to create an inclusive, social, fun, and safe environment for people with special needs ages 13 and up. Calling itself “The League Without Limits,” it welcomes participants of all abilities and helps them feel accepted, join a team, develop basketball skills, build confidence, and enjoy being active with others. Its programs are offered at locations across North Carolina, including Apex, Cary, Clayton, Durham, Garner, Jacksonville, Pittsboro, and Wake Forest, as well as in Dayton, Ohio.
Sessions provide opportunities to practice and play basketball in a positive, structured setting, with seasonal registrations and events. Journey League also organizes special activities, including a summer camp and an annual gala, and shares stories from its teams and community. A PBS North Carolina-produced, Emmy Award-winning documentary has featured the league.
As a 501(c)(3) organization, Journey League directs donations toward player scholarships, special events, and program growth, while stating that it does not ask participating families to donate
