About JPEG XL
JPEG XL is a pioneering image codec developed through the collaborative efforts of a global community, focusing on delivering advanced image compression technologies. Launched as a next-generation format, JPEG XL combines the innovative features of significant predecessors, notably Pik and FUIF, which were developed by Google and Cloudinary, respectively. With an extensive timeline of development starting from initial proposals in 2018, JPEG XL evolved through rigorous testing and standardization processes overseen by the JPEG committee.
This cutting-edge format excels in both lossy and lossless image compression, catering to diverse applications from web graphics to professional photography. JPEG XL supports features such as alpha transparency and is designed for high dynamic range (HDR) imaging. The continuous improvements and iterative updates signify its commitment to optimizing performance for creators and developers alike. As the digital landscape evolves, JPEG XL stands at the forefront, setting new benchmarks for image quality and efficiency in the imaging industry.
