Johnny Murtagh

JP Murtagh Racing is a thoroughbred training operation based at Fox Covert Stables in Kildare Town, on Ireland’s historic Curragh plains. Led by former champion jockey Johnny Murtagh, the yard draws on his experience of more than 3,000 riding wins, including major international races, and his knowledge of the sport’s leading trainers. The business offers racehorse training for owners, using the Curragh’s extensive grass, sand and woodchip gallops, maintained throughout the year for exercise in varied weather conditions.

Its facilities include capacity for 60 horses, loose boxes, a horse walker, and indoor and outdoor rings. The team also provides access to a stable jockey, Ben Coen, appointed to the role in 2021. JP Murtagh Racing has trained winners at prestigious meetings in Ireland and Britain, including the Irish St Leger, Ebor Handicap and Royal Ascot.

The yard welcomes owners who wish to share in its racing ambitions, and provides information about horses for the season and upcoming entries. Enquiries can be made by email or at the stables
