The Japan Policy Research Institute (JPRI) is a renowned organization founded in 1994 by Dr. Chalmers Johnson and Steven C. Clemons. Initially established to promote public education about Japan's significance in the Pacific Rim, JPRI has evolved into a "Pacific Rim Institute," focusing on countries across the vast region. Over the years, JPRI has produced high-quality research, publications, and hosted conferences to foster dialogue and cooperation among various stakeholders.
JPRI publishes a range of materials, including Working Papers, Critiques, Occasional Papers, and books, covering topics such as history, memoirs, and opinion-oriented pieces. As a part of its mission to advance intercultural understanding and international reconciliation, JPRI sponsors public events, workshops, and student-centered projects. Based at the Asia Pacific Peace Studies Institute (APPSI) at Holy Names University in California since 2013, JPRI continues to contribute to policy-relevant research and education on the Pacific Rim.
