About JPS
The Physical Society of Japan (PSJ) is a scholarly association founded in 1877. It has approximately 15,000 members and supports the advancement and communication of physics through academic activities, publications, education, and public engagement. The society counts among its members 12 Nobel Prize laureates in Physics and four in Chemistry.
PSJ organizes annual and seasonal scientific meetings and supports research communities through subject-area divisions, committees, and regional branches. Its activities also include awards, career support, and notices about research funding. Its publishing portfolio includes the Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, Progress of Theoretical and Experimental Physics, conference proceedings, educational publications, and topical features.
For wider audiences, PSJ offers public lectures, online physics talks, events for school students, practical workshops for physics teachers, and accessible resources on modern physics and the history of the discipline. It also collaborates with domestic and international scientific organizations and shares information about physics research, education, and professional opportunities with members and the public.
