Judo Zuidlaren

Judo Zuidlaren is a friendly judo club in Zuidlaren, welcoming people of all ages and experience levels. Its training focuses on enjoyment, fitness, confidence, resilience and mutual respect. Members practise together, learning to listen, communicate boundaries and stand up for themselves. Classes also develop motor skills, with particular attention to safe falling techniques.

Training takes place at the gymnasium on Ludinge 4, with sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays for children, teenagers and adults. Led by trainers Bas Helwerda, a third dan, and Lisa Zhang, a first dan, the programme offers age-based groups and options for different training frequencies. Newcomers can sign up for a free trial lesson before joining.

Membership is available for juniors aged five to eight, juniors aged nine to seventeen, those training twice weekly, and adults over eighteen. Fees are collected quarterly by direct debit, with charges adjusted for those joining partway through a quarter. The club also organises outings and community activities, and welcomes sponsorship to help keep costs accessible and fund activities and replacement mats.
