JULIA RUST

Julia Rust is a writer and teaching artist based in New York’s Hudson River Valley. Her work includes young adult fiction, collaborative books, and audiobook projects, alongside teaching and community writing programs. With co-author David Surface, Rust wrote Saving Thornwood, published in July 2025.

The novel uses alternating viewpoints and time travel to explore the stigma surrounding mental illness and the ability of young women across different eras to shape their futures and help others. Rust and Surface also share their books and creative work through their joint website, Rust and Surface. Another title, Angel Falls, is available as an audiobook narrated by award-winning performer Kirby Heybourne.

Beyond writing, Rust and Surface run the Veterans Writing Workshop, offering free workshops to U. S. veterans and active-duty military personnel in the metropolitan New York City area.

Rust also works as an actor and describes herself as a Buddhist and cat lover. Her website provides information about her writing, teaching, and other creative activities, and invites visitors to subscribe to her newsletter or get in touch
