K3Metrology

K3Metrology is a spin-out from the National Physical Laboratory developing Metralis®, a next-generation coordinate measurement system for demanding manufacturing environments. The company aims to help manufacturers obtain rapid, accurate and trustworthy measurement data, addressing the limitations of slower instruments, calibration downtime and costly recalibration.

Metralis is designed to capture multiple measurement targets simultaneously, rather than relying on slow point-by-point routines. Its features include automatic correction of systematic errors, direct traceability to the international standard of length—the SI metre—and a real-time performance indicator that helps users assess confidence in results as measurements are taken. The system is intended for factory-floor use and to support efficient, flexible production.

K3Metrology focuses on industries where precision is critical, including aerospace, automotive, defence, marine, nuclear energy and rail. It is developing Metralis with partners in aerospace, defence and advanced manufacturing, and invites organisations to discuss their measurement challenges. The company is based at AMRC Cymru in Broughton, Wales, and is working to commercialise its measurement platform for advanced manufacturing.
