The Wiener Kaffeesiederball is an annual Viennese ball celebrating the city’s distinctive coffeehouse culture and the people who sustain it. Organized by Vienna’s coffeehouse proprietors, the event transforms the Hofburg Vienna into a grand gathering place inspired by the traditional café as a centre of art, music, literature, conversation and public debate. Each edition explores a particular aspect of this heritage.
The 68th ball, scheduled for 22 January 2027, takes the theme “Where thoughts dance and coffee smells of freedom,” highlighting freedom of thought, self-expression and the historic contributions of women coffeehouse proprietors. Its programme also includes a portrait project honouring Viennese women in the coffeehouse trade, presented online, through social media and at the ball. The organization provides information about the ball, ticket sales, schedules, travel and nearby partner hotels, as well as press resources and impressions from past events.
Visitors can also sign up for a newsletter to receive updates. Through its annual celebration and related cultural initiatives, the Wiener Kaffeesiederball connects Vienna’s coffeehouse traditions with contemporary society
