Palpung Thubten Choling Monastery, also known as the Garden of the Buddha's Teachings, was established in 1978 by Lama Norlha Rinpoche under the guidance of Kyabje Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche. Named after the main Palpung monastery in Tibet, it operates as a branch of the Palpung Congregation under the spiritual direction of Guru Vajradhara His Holiness The Twelfth Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa. The lineage of the Kenting Tai Situpas can be traced back to the Bodhisattva Maitreya, one of the main disciples of the Buddha.
As the current head of the Palpung lineage, the Twelfth Kenting Tai Situpa oversees a global network of monasteries, retreat centers, and Dharma centers. Located in Wappingers Falls, New York, the monastery started in a modest one-story factory building on seven acres of land overlooking the Hudson River. It has since expanded and offers various services and facilities to both members and visitors.
Visitors can join weekly classes and practices, participate in the three-year retreat program, or become a member of the Million Mani Club. The monastery also hosts events, offers Dharma teachings, and accepts donations to support ongoing activities. Overnight accommodations are available for fully vaccinated guests, with options for single or double occupancy rooms in the Guest House or Maitreya Center.
Vegetarian lunches are provided for day guests, and there are guidelines and etiquette to follow in the shrine room during practice sessions. Palpung Thubten Choling Monastery invites people to immerse themselves in the teachings of Buddhism, connecting with a rich lineage and contributing to the preservation and propagation of the Buddhadharma
