About Kaisergruft
The Kaisergruft, or Imperial Crypt, is a historic burial site beneath the Capuchin church and monastery in Vienna. Managed by Kapuzinergruft GmbH, it preserves more than 400 years of Austrian and European history through the resting places of 150 Habsburg rulers and family members. Visitors can explore its crypts and chapel, where artistic sarcophagi, symbols of imperial authority, and expressions of faith and mortality reflect the dynasty’s legacy and the personal stories of those buried there.
The site offers general admission, reduced-price tickets, annual passes, and an online shop. Visitors can join scheduled tours in German and English, with Italian tours offered on selected dates; group and evening tours are available on request. The website also provides visitor information, opening hours, historical content, biographies, and a timeline of Habsburg lives. Families and school groups can find information about group visits, although family tours are currently not being held. The Kaisergruft welcomes visitors daily at its central Vienna location and shares updates through its newsletter and social media.
