Kaitiaki Hauora

Kaitiaki Hauora is a New Zealand public health advocacy organisation working to protect and strengthen Aotearoa’s publicly funded healthcare system. Its approach centres on health justice, community-led care, equity, and upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including Māori leadership in improving health outcomes. Rather than providing clinical services, Kaitiaki Hauora brings communities, health workers, patients, clinicians, and advocates together to influence the decisions that shape healthcare.

The organisation runs public events, research, communications, and national campaigns to share information, elevate local concerns, and call for policy reform and stronger local health services. Its activities include community meetings and roadshows, campaigns highlighting health workers’ perspectives, and forums on patient safety and the future of public healthcare. Kaitiaki Hauora also supports communities seeking answers about local services and helps ensure their experiences are heard in wider discussions.

Donations fund its advocacy, communications, nationwide coordination, and community mobilisation. Kaitiaki Hauora’s priorities are properly funding public health, honouring Te Tiriti, and keeping healthcare public so that care remains focused on people.
