Kakapo Creek is a privately owned early childhood education centre in Mairangi Bay, Auckland, offering premium care for children aged 1–6. Owned and operated by Ian and Kaye McKean, the centre follows an attachment-rich, nature-filled approach informed by family research, attachment theory and neuroscience. Its focus is on helping children feel safe, loved and ready to learn through warm relationships with qualified, experienced teachers.

The centre offers a nursery programme for children aged 1–3 and mixed-age, family-style preschool classrooms for children aged 3–5. Learning combines intentional teaching with generous time for free play, curiosity and creativity, supporting literacy and numeracy through planned learning experiences. Enrichment activities include science projects, cooking, and opportunities to connect with the wider world.

Families can also choose a weekly Farm School excursion to Kakapo Creek’s Northern Campus in Silverdale, where children explore nature and build connections with the natural environment. The centre provides on-site parenting support and a family social network, alongside meals and parent resources.
