TeAraKakariki

Te Ara Kākāriki Greenway Canterbury Trust is a charitable trust working to increase biodiversity across Waitaha Canterbury, Aotearoa New Zealand. Its vision is a corridor of native habitat, or “Greenway,” connecting the Waimakariri and Rakaia rivers, the mountains, Te Waihora Lake Ellesmere and Banks Peninsula. The trust supports the creation of Greendots: native planting areas on private and community land that expand habitat for indigenous wildlife and link restoration efforts across the region.

Its activities combine practical restoration, community involvement and education. The trust organises volunteer planting days, helps landowners plan and establish native plantings, and offers professional restoration services through its field team. Its Kids Discovery Plantout Programme gives Selwyn tamariki hands-on opportunities to learn about biodiversity and take part in planting. The organisation also provides guidance and resources on getting started, ecosourcing plants, financial assistance, pest management and monitoring. Through partnerships, donations and volunteer participation, Te Ara Kākāriki brings landowners, schools and communities together to support lasting ecological restoration throughout Canterbury.
