Kaketoes

V.V. De Kaketoes is a carnival and leisure association based in Roermond, the Netherlands. Founded on 15 January 1956 at Café De Post, the vereniging has grown from its beginnings into a well-established part of the local community. Its roots are closely connected to the Kapel, Kemp, Kitskensberg and Heide neighbourhoods, and its distinctive colours are red and blue.

Carnival is at the heart of De Kaketoes’ activities. The association brings people together through events and traditions including a Prince’s reception, children’s activities, parades, a carnival market and a rural wedding celebration. Its programme also features social gatherings and community events throughout the year, such as the Koningsmarkt and the Gala der Buuttekampioenen. The organisation includes groups and committees for its prince, youth, dance guard and other members, helping sustain its traditions across generations.

Beyond celebrating carnival, De Kaketoes supports social and cultural initiatives in the surrounding community. Its activities offer residents and visitors opportunities to meet, participate and share in local festivities, fostering a strong sense of neighbourhood connection and community spirit.
