The Audubon Society of Kalamazoo (ASK) is a volunteer-led bird and nature organization serving Southwest Michigan. Founded in 1945 by local bird watchers, it welcomes members of all ages and birding experience levels. Although ASK is a local chapter of Michigan Audubon, it is an independent organization with its own membership. Its work focuses on bird and wildlife conservation, nature education, and outdoor recreation.
ASK offers monthly bird and nature programs, more than 20 guided field trips each year, beginning birding walks, and an annual bird count and May gathering. It publishes a monthly e-newsletter and maintains a lending library of bird-related books, videos, and recordings, as well as a local Rare Bird Alert network. For schools and the wider community, ASK provides free classroom presentations, education grants for elementary and middle schools, and talks on bird-related topics. The organization also supports the Kalamazoo peregrine falcon webcam, works on local environmental issues, and contributes to groups protecting birds and their habitats.
