About Forest Preserve District of Kane County

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County has been dedicated to preserving and restoring the natural landscapes of Kane County, Illinois, since 1925. Spanning over 23,000 acres, the district features diverse ecosystems, including woodlands, wetlands, and prairies, enhancing the quality of life for residents through environmental conservation and public recreation. Visitors can explore these beautiful preserves year-round, engaging in a wide array of activities such as hiking, birdwatching, fishing, golfing, and horseback riding.

The district also hosts educational programs, campgrounds, and picnic areas for families and groups to enjoy. Recently, the return of American bison to Burlington Prairie marks a significant ecological milestone after more than 200 years. New facilities, such as the Arrowwood Point Archery Complex, offer additional recreational opportunities.
