About GetRuralKansas
The Kansas Explorers Club, based in Inman, Kansas, is an inspiring project by the Kansas Sampler Foundation. It aims to educate, inspire, and encourage exploration and appreciation of the state of Kansas. The club offers a bimonthly membership newsletter that provides a fresh perspective on Kansas and helps explorers see the state with new eyes.
The club is part of the larger initiative called the 8 Wonders of Kansas, which was created to showcase the unique and diverse attractions of the state. The foundation recognizes the 8 rural culture elements: architecture, art, commerce, cuisine, customs, geography, history, and people. These elements are what make each town in Kansas special and tell a story.
The 8 Wonders of Kansas contest series, launched by the foundation, has been a tremendous success in educating both Kansans and the world about the treasures of the state. Each contest cycle focused on one of the rural culture elements, inviting public nominations and selecting 24 finalists. The top 8 wonders in each category were chosen through public voting.
The contest has garnered over 100,000 votes, with participants from every state and even some foreign countries. The goal of the 8 Wonders of Kansas contest is not only to showcase the state's attractions but also to promote travel within Kansas. By highlighting the diverse cultural and natural heritage of the state, the contest encourages exploration and appreciation of what Kansas has to offer.
The Kansas Sampler Foundation, the driving force behind the Kansas Explorers Club and the 8 Wonders of Kansas, is a public non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, sustaining, and promoting rural culture. Founded in 1993, the foundation has been instrumental in showcasing the hidden gems of Kansas and educating people about the state's rich heritage.
