About Karachi Astronomy
Karachi Astronomers’ Society (KAS) is a community of astronomy enthusiasts, predominantly amateur astronomers, based in Karachi and supported by active members across Pakistan, including Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta, Sargodha and Hyderabad. Founded in 2008, KAS describes itself as Pakistan’s first and largest astronomy club by membership, affiliations and events. Its mission is to organize and encourage interest in astronomy and space sciences, contributing to their development as both scientific disciplines and hobbies across the country.
KAS promotes practical astronomy through events, workshops and “Rutjugas,” or astronomy trips, helping participants learn about using binoculars and telescopes and understand their availability and technical features. Its activities also include public outreach, observing, astrophotography, astronomy articles and publications, and do-it-yourself equipment projects. The society shares information about celestial events and cosmology, publishes news and trip reports, and provides access to astronomy equipment through its shop. KAS also highlights resources such as its Solar Astronomy Project, Dark Sky Trips and KAStrodome Observatory.
