KatiesKomets

Katie’s Komets is a co-ed youth wheelchair basketball team serving Philadelphia and surrounding areas. It brings together young people with lower-limb impairments, creating a welcoming community where athletes can build independence, self-confidence, and social and emotional well-being through sport. The team emphasizes both basketball skills and personal development, helping players find opportunities for physical activity, mentorship, friendships, and, for some, college scholarships or pathways to higher-level competition. Some athletes have gone on to play in college, pursue Paralympic ambitions, or return to coach.

Katie’s Komets participates in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association’s junior program, with teams in Prep and Varsity divisions. Prep is for players age 13 and under and uses an 8.5-foot basket. Varsity introduces advanced skills on full-size courts with regulation-height hoops and is open to eligible students within the division’s age limits. The team welcomes new players and invites interested families to get in touch. Donations help cover travel and equipment expenses for the team and its families.
