Kayan is an environmental conservation and sustainable development initiative focused on North and East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Its project spans approximately 8.68 million hectares of forest and coastal ecosystems, including the Kayan River Basin, mangroves, peatlands, and rainforest. Bringing together Indigenous leadership, local communities, technology, and innovative finance, Kayan aims to protect biodiversity, address climate change, and support sustainable prosperity.

The Kayan Token is the project’s digital asset concept. The initiative describes tokenisation as a way to represent land rights through blockchain-based tokens, allowing landowners to seek returns without giving up ownership. It also aims to raise funds for environmental and social investments and generate revenue through the issuance and validation of carbon credits. The project’s proposed activities include eco-tourism, sustainable forest products, traditional crafts, medicinal resources, and aquaculture. Its wider development plans include renewable energy projects, such as micro-hydro and off-grid solar, alongside green industrial opportunities. Kayan presents its long-term conservation and community partnership goals as a model for combining environmental protection with economic opportunity.
