Kenya Drylands Education Fund (KDEF) is a nonprofit organization that aims to provide education and empowerment opportunities for students in Northern Kenya. Founded by Sarah Hadden and Kura Omar, KDEF focuses on addressing the challenges faced by pastoralist communities, particularly girls, in accessing educational resources. KDEF initially started by distributing Opportunity Kits, which include washable sanitary pads, underwear, and soap, to girls in primary schools in Marsabit and Samburu Counties.

Recognizing the low transition rates from primary to secondary school, KDEF also established a scholarship program. This program offers academically qualified students from needy backgrounds in Marsabit and Samburu Counties the chance to receive a fully-funded secondary education at high-quality boarding schools. In addition to these initiatives, KDEF places importance on holistic student development and has implemented a Mentorship component.

Students and their parents come together annually for three days of discussions on social issues, health concerns, and life skills. Led by Sarah Hadden in the U. S.
