About Kehlsteinhaus
Kehlsteinhaus, situated in a picturesque location, serves as both a mountain restaurant and a historical viewpoint. Completed in 1938, it offers a stunning panorama of the Berchtesgaden Alps and the Salzburg region. Contrary to popular belief, the Kehlsteinhaus was not a gift for Hitler's 50th birthday in 1939.
Today, it stands as a poignant reminder of the dark chapter of the NS dictatorship. Managed as a mountain inn since 1952, access to the Kehlsteinhaus is via the Kehlsteinstraße, with special buses from the Obersalzberg parking lot. The site features an exhibition by the Institute of Contemporary History, showcasing the history of the Kehlsteinhaus.
