TheKeLCoP

The Kenya Livestock Commercialization Project (KeLCoP) is a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing rural livelihoods through sustainable agricultural practices. Launched on March 5, 2021, this six-year project is a collaborative effort involving the Government of Kenya, international partners like the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Heifer International, and local beneficiary communities. KeLCoP targets 110,000 households, particularly focusing on youth and women, in semi-arid and arid regions across ten counties including Baringo, Marsabit, and Nakuru.

The project emphasizes the development of value chains for small livestock, including sheep, goats, and indigenous chickens, and promotes climate-smart production practices. By facilitating market access and supporting small livestock market development, KeLCoP aims to bolster rural farmers' incomes and enhance food security. Additionally, the project works towards strengthening environmental sustainability and climate resilience, thereby fostering a more equitable agricultural sector that benefits vulnerable communities. Through these initiatives, KeLCoP is dedicated to driving the agricultural transformation agenda in Kenya.
