Kenshikai

Kenshikai Finland is a Helsinki-based martial arts club offering traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu karate and kobudo training. The club is part of the international Okinawa Gojuryu Kenshi Kai Karatedo Kobudo Organization, whose main dojo is in Nishihara, Okinawa, and whose president is founder Tetsuhiro Hokama. Its training provides a comprehensive form of exercise, developing strength, balance, mobility, coordination and speed in a relaxed atmosphere. Sessions combine conditioning, varied techniques and safe contact practice, with particular emphasis on close-range combat.

Karate instruction covers fundamental techniques and partner work, including blocks, punches, kicks, throws, breakfalls and control holds. Kobudo classes teach traditional weapons techniques using the bo, tonfa, sai, nunchaku, kama and eku. Training is organized around kata and bunkai, kihon, and kumite: forms and their practical applications, basic techniques, and partner practice. Instructors aim to account for each participant’s individual abilities and needs, supporting motivation, progress and personal goals.
