The Kentville Historical Society is a community organization dedicated to encouraging and strengthening appreciation and understanding of the historical and cultural heritage of Kentville, Nova Scotia. Through its heritage centre, collections, events, and educational resources, the Society shares stories of the town and the wider region.
Kentville sits on the Cornwallis River in central Nova Scotia. Settled in the 1760s by New England Planters after the expulsion of the Acadians, it was first known as Horton’s Corner. The town took the name Kentville in 1826, honouring the Duke of Kent, who visited during a hunting trip in 1794.
The Society’s Heritage Centre is housed in the historic former VIA Rail Station at 66 Station Lane. Visitors can explore photographs, artifacts, and stories about Kentville’s past and the Dominion Atlantic Railway. The Society also invites people to become members, volunteer, donate, and attend speaker meetings and other events. Its website provides information about the Society, local history, membership, events, and plans for visiting the centre.
