About Kerala State Chalachitra Academy
Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, also known as the Motion Picture Academy of the Kerala State, was established in August 1998 as a pioneering initiative by the Government of Kerala. It stands as the first of its kind in the country, aiming to counter the commoditization of cinema and acknowledge its cultural significance. The Academy's core objective is to facilitate the complete development of human beings through cinema, both as individuals and as members of society.
Through various initiatives, the Academy reaches out to students, teachers, and the general public, promoting cinema as more than just entertainment—it is a medium for academic reflection and a tool to preserve and document our societal history. Additionally, the Academy acts as a link between the government and the film industry, organizes film festivals across the state, preserves and promotes Malayalam Cinema, intervenes in film education, documents the history of Malayalam Cinema, and honors individuals and films that contribute to the aesthetics of Malayalam cinema
