The Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) is a national institution established under the KEWI Act 2001 to support the development of Kenya’s water and sanitation sectors. Its mandate includes providing training, administering examinations, and conducting research and consultancy services across the wider water sector. KEWI also provides a forum for collaboration among public and private sector organisations and other interested parties.
The institute offers academic programmes through its campuses in Nairobi, Chiakariga, Kitui and Kisumu, alongside admissions and student services such as online applications, a student portal and e-learning. Its programme areas include a Bachelor of Science in Sanitation and Waste Management, dual certificate programmes, short courses and professional assessment opportunities. KEWI also shares research publications and supports learning through its library and training facilities.
Beyond education, the institute provides consultancy services, including drilling-related work, and offers accommodation, conference venues and event facilities. Its activities include specialised initiatives such as the Non-Revenue Water Management Centre of Excellence.
