The Keyboard Institute is a community-owned knowledge and discussion resource focused on vintage and modern keyboards. It was established to help preserve the keyboard community’s information and conversations amid concerns that existing resources could be lost or resold beyond community control. Its work includes the Keyboard Bureau of Investigation, a wiki intended to collect and maintain keyboard knowledge, and a switch database designed to document switches across the market.

Community members can contribute submissions to the database and take part in discussions through the Institute’s Discord server and IRC channel. The project aims to keep its content available under Creative Commons licensing and regularly publish database dumps, helping ensure that its shared knowledge remains accessible and recoverable by the community. Alongside its wiki and switch database, the Institute provides links to community resources and invites supporters to help sustain its work.

Its central purpose is to give keyboard enthusiasts a collaborative, community-led place to document, share, and preserve information about keyboards and their components
