About KEY Libraries
KEY is a Kenyan initiative that is dedicated to providing comprehensive and responsive school libraries. Through their sister charity, KEY Kenya, they have successfully built award-winning turnkey libraries in Africa. Their models are easily adoptable and yield rapid rewards for schools at various levels, including primary and secondary schools in national, provincial, district, and community settings.
Their efforts have included renovating existing spaces in urban schools, constructing new structures in remote villages, and even modifying shipping containers in refugee camps. KEY's libraries have made a significant impact on over 44,000 students, with a focus on achieving gender equality in education. Access to these libraries has enhanced educational curriculum, language proficiency, and technological skills for underserved children.
KEY's work has also led to the development of Kenya's first National Policy and Guidelines Document for school libraries. By providing access to libraries, KEY is enabling children to develop the necessary foundations for academic success, critical thinking, and personal growth
