Keystone Hatcheries is a brand that offers a range of products and services for ponds and water gardens. One of their featured products is the Barley Straw Small Bale. This compact bale weighs approximately 40 pounds and measures 24x18x18.

It is designed to be broken up into mesh bags and placed in areas of high water flow for pond use. It is important not to place the bulk bale directly in the pond, as it is too compact and will not work effectively. Keystone Hatcheries also offers inexpensive drawstring bags that hold about 8 pounds of straw, which can be used to fill approximately 3 bags from the box.

The Barley Straw acts as a natural water clarifier, improving water quality through various natural processes. It is recommended to place the barley in an area with circulation, such as diffused aeration systems or fountains, for maximum effectiveness. The barley takes about 3 weeks to begin working and is typically used up after 3 months, so setting up a rotation schedule is advised for optimal results.

Keystone Hatcheries provides dosage rates for different types of ponds, including koi ponds, water gardens, lakes, and ponds.
