King George VI Centre is a Zimbabwean organisation dedicated to advocating for children with disabilities and supporting their independence. Based in Bulawayo, the Centre provides rehabilitation and boarding facilities for disabled and deaf children aged 3 to 20, welcoming students from across the country. It works alongside King George VI School, a government school, and is described as Zimbabwe’s only secondary education facility for disabled and deaf children and the only such primary school in southern Zimbabwe.
The Centre’s services and programs combine education, rehabilitation and practical preparation for adult life. These include independent living support, sign language, arts activities, the DREAMS program, a School Leavers Program, vocational training, sports and clubs, advocacy, and community-based rehabilitation. Vocational training is a particular focus for senior students, helping them develop skills for greater independence. The Centre also shares news, newsletters, videos and gallery content about its community and activities, and invites people to learn about ways to support its work through donations.
