About Kathmandu Institute of Applied Sciences
KIAS (Kathmandu Institute of Applied Sciences) is an autonomous, nongovernmental, and not-for-profit research organization that was established in 2014 by a group of Nepali scientists renowned for their excellence in research. With a mission to lead society through intellectual innovation in science and technology, KIAS aims to make a significant impact in the field. KIAS is dedicated to research, innovation, discovery, and outreach through its three vibrant research centers: the Center for Analytical Sciences, the Center for Conservation Biology, and the Center for Water and Atmospheric Research.
These centers drive various ongoing research projects related to biodiversity, climate change, drought studies, environmental pollution, and the development of new technology for biological and chemical analysis. Notably, KIAS specializes in creating solutions that are adaptable to low-resource settings. In addition to its research endeavors, KIAS actively organizes trainings, workshops, and science outreach programs, including short-term schools and conferences for students, researchers, and scientists.
Among its flagship events is the International Conference on Mountains in the Changing World (MoChWo), held annually in Nepal. Registered with various administrative and regulatory bodies, including the District Administration Office of Kathmandu, Inland Revenue Office, and Social Welfare Council of Kathmandu, KIAS also serves as the secretariat for esteemed professional organizations such as the Society for Conservation Biology, Nepal, National Young Academy of Nepal, and Organization of Women Scientists in Nepal. Located in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-04, Bagdol, Lalitpur, Nepal, KIAS can be conveniently reached via email at info@kias.
