About Kingaroy Observatory
**Kingaroy Observatory**
Kingaroy Observatory, established on August 16, 2004, is Queensland's largest self-funded astro-tourism facility, offering a unique opportunity to explore the wonders of the universe. Initially opened in Maidenwell, the observatory relocated to its current site at Kingaroy Airport in March 2015, enhancing accessibility for star enthusiasts. The observatory features state-of-the-art equipment, including three 14-inch Meade Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes, allowing visitors to experience breathtaking views of the Southern night sky, including celestial events such as lunar eclipses and transits of Mercury and Venus.
Led by seasoned astronomer James 'StarMan' Barclay, who boasts over 70 years of experience, the observatory provides engaging cosmic tours and educational insights into astronomy. With a seating capacity of 40 in the observation deck and 70 in the star theatre, Kingaroy Observatory caters to both individuals and groups. An array of services, including night shows and mobile astronomy, invites everyone to connect with the cosmos while promoting the preservation of dark skies. Join us for an unforgettable stargazing experience!
