Kingston Allergy Research (KAR) is a research group based in Kingston, Ontario, bringing together scientific research staff from Queen’s University and health care professionals from Kingston General Hospital. Directed by Dr. Anne K. Ellis, an Assistant Professor in Queen’s University’s Department of Medicine, the group has worked in allergy research since the early 1980s and reports more than 100 years of combined team experience.
KAR focuses on discovering and validating treatments for allergic rhinitis and investigating potential biomarkers of future atopy through cord blood collection. Its research has included the development and validation of new allergic rhinitis treatments, with findings shared through published papers and research communications. The group also created and validated an Environmental Exposure Unit, sometimes called an Environmental Exposure Chamber, and has access to research laboratories at Queen’s University and Kingston General Hospital.
As part of AllerGen, the Canadian Network Centre of Excellence in Allergy, Genes and Environment, KAR contributes to research concerning allergy, asthma and anaphylaxis.
