About Kinnapa Development Programme
KINNAPA Tanzania is a community-based non-profit organization that was established in the early 1990s to address land encroachment issues faced by pastoralists and peasants in the Kiteto district. With a mission to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life for pastoralists, hunter-gatherers, and small-scale agriculturalists in Kiteto, KINNAPA ensures community participation in development projects, gender balance, accountability, Tanzania's national interests, and sustainable resource management. The name KINNAPA is derived from the initials of the six founding villages: Kibaya, Kimana, Njoro, Ndaleta, Namelock, and Partimbo, which, in the Maasai language, means we help each other.
The organization successfully worked together to obtain Village Title Deeds, leading to the formation of a community-based organization focused on facilitating their development issues. KINNAPA's areas of focus include advancing women's human rights, healthcare, rehabilitation, and awareness, water development, livestock and agriculture, as well as education programs. Their target groups are pastoralists, small-scale farmers, and hunter-gatherers in Kiteto.
With a history of donor support, including significant funding from NOVIB, KINNAPA is committed to uplifting the lives of marginalized communities through sustainable and inclusive development efforts
