Kirjakekkerit is a Finnish-language literature festival held in Karjaa, bringing writers, readers, families, and schools together for a varied programme of literary and cultural activities. The festival combines author encounters, interviews, creative workshops, performances, and events for children, with activities hosted at local venues including Bio Pallas, Kulttuuritalo Fokus, and libraries.

Its programme has included conversations with Finnish authors about their books, school visits and virtual author sessions for pupils, a poetry-writing workshop led by poet and writing teacher Tommi Parkko, and a puppet theatre performance inspired by the Kalevala. Children and families can also enjoy storytelling in Finnish and Swedish, crafts, a magic show, games, and activities based on comics and words. Film screenings add another element to the festival’s cultural offering.

Kirjakekkerit also provides school-focused programming and a word-art challenge, encouraging young people to engage with reading and creative writing. The 2026 festival ran from 9 to 14 March, with its main event on Saturday. Details of the 2027 theme and programme are to be announced.
