Kirwan House

Kirwan House is an Irish charitable trust that provides educational bursaries to help families in need. Established in 1791, it describes itself as Ireland’s oldest charity and has operated as a trust fund since 1991. Its Board of Governors considers applications and awards the limited funds available, aiming to support families with the greatest need; the Board’s decisions are final.

Bursaries are available only to students in secondary education who meet the stated eligibility criteria. Applicants must be baptised in a Protestant faith recognised by the Irish Council of Churches, with Baptists and the Society of Friends also considered. Students must be going forward for confirmation, supported by a letter from a member of the clergy who knows the family, and must be receiving an SEC Grant. Kirwan House invites eligible families to request an application form or seek further information by email. Completed applications for the stated application round must be received by Friday 12 June 2026.
